Nature & Biodiversity
Let’s protect and boost Roundhay’s biodiversity, while recognizing the growing threat to nature and its impact on us all.
Get in touchBoosting Roundhay's Biodiversity
Together, the UK's gardens are larger than all of our National Nature Reserves combined, making them as important for wildlife as they are for our own wellbeing. Our gardens, verges and local greenspaces can all provide habitat and nature corridors for wildlife.
Planting
By collaborating with community partners, we focus on planting trees and wildflower verges & meadows to create vibrant, environmentally-friendly areas that benefit both nature and the community. If you have a community space for planting trees or a wildflower area contact us and we would love to support you.
Rewilding
We have an active Rewilding Group on WhatsApp to connect volunteers and suggest rewilding opportunities such as tree and hedge planting projects. To join the group, become a REAP member and you will receive the joining link.
Nature projects
Below are three of our current projects - let us know if you would like to get involved. Can you think of a local space we could help you plant up? If so, get in touch.
The Banana Bed
At the junction of Talbot Road/North Park Avenue is a banana shaped verge. By sowing wildflower seeds and planting bulbs and perennials, a small patch of biodioversity and beauty right next to a busy road junction is thriving.
Roundhay Hedgerow
This new project will plant a hedgerow along the Roundhay allotment boundary on Old Park Road and Lidgett Park Lane with 3000 hedgerow trees and a lovely new orchard to plant with 50 fruit trees, and wildflower strip.
The Spire Wildflower Meadow
Situated in a lawn at the back of the hospital is a wildflower area created by REAP with support from the hospital. It is open for viewing at Roundhay Open Gardens in June each year.
