Community hedgerow project at Roundhay allotments
REAP and Roundhay Allotments and Gardens Association (RAGA) have a joint initiative to create a wildlife hedge along the south and east boundaries of the allotments to encourage more biodiversity. The existing single row mature hedge will be thickened with a second row of new wildlife friendly hedging on the park side. It is hoped that with enough volunteers in the Autumn we can plant several hundred 'whips'. Allotment volunteers will be assisting and will also be creating a 'dead hedge' along the west woodland boundary.
The allotment has also allocated a small plot to be used as a tree nursery to enable plot holders to grow saplings for planting in the local community.
